Announced: October 9, 2025
Reason: Possible Salmonella contamination
Brands Affected: Foodynamics, Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, Kanu Pets, What’s In the Bowl

Foodynamics, based in Wisconsin, has issued a voluntary recall of several freeze-dried pet treat products after testing by the FDA found possible Salmonella contamination.

This recall affects small numbers of products under multiple brand names, including Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, Kanu Pets, and What’s In the Bowl. The company traced all shipments and contacted every customer who received the affected treats. No illnesses in pets or people have been reported.

Where the Treats Were Sold

Only eight packages total were distributed to stores in Wisconsin, New York, and Florida. Most of the products have already been returned or accounted for, but if you recently bought freeze-dried treats from any of these brands, it’s worth double-checking the lot numbers on your packaging.

Why This Recall Matters

Salmonella can make both pets and people sick if the treats (or hands, counters, or bowls) aren’t cleaned properly after handling.

Symptoms in people may include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal pain, fever
  • Rarely: joint pain, eye irritation, or urinary issues

Symptoms in pets may include:

  • Lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, loss of appetite, or tummy pain

Even healthy pets can spread bacteria to humans or other animals.

What to Do if You Have These Treats

  1. Stop feeding them immediately.
  2. Dispose of them safely so kids, pets, and wildlife can’t get to them.
  3. Clean and sanitize all pet bowls, storage containers, and surfaces the treats may have touched.
  4. Wash your hands thoroughly after cleaning or handling.
  5. Return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If your pet ate any of these treats and seems unwell, contact your veterinarian.
