Dog Food Recall Alert – March 1, 2022 – Family Dollar Stores Pet Food and Treats

Dog Food Recall Alert

We care about you and your dog and we know that you will do anything you can to keep your dog safe and healthy.

That’s why we take time everyday to check for dog food recalls, to help keep you informed!

In January 2022, more than 1100 dead rats were discovered in a Family Dollar store distribution center. The company’s internal records indicated the collection of more than 2,300 rodents between March 29 and Sept. 17, 2021, demonstrating a history of infestation.

Family Dollar store has initiated a recall of all FDA regulated products such as food, cosmetics, drugs and pet food.

The affected products were distributed to Family Dollar stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

If you have purchased pet food or pet treats that are packaged in something other than a metal or glass container between January 1, 2021 and the present date, please discard or return to the Family Dollar store you purchased the items from.

If you have used any of these affected products and are concerned about your pet’s wellbeing, please contact your veterinarian.

According to the FDA website, “There are numerous hazards associated with rodents including the potential presence of Salmonella. Use or consumption of affected products may present risk of illness due to the potential presence of Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in infants, young children, frail or elderly people, pregnant persons, persons with pre- existent pathology (e.g., patients with cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatments, organ transplant recipient, etc.) and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”

You can read more about this recall on the FDA website.
