Turkey Recipe Pet Food Recall Due to HPAI Virus

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) warns pet owners about a recall of Northwest Naturals 2lb Feline Turkey Recipe raw & frozen pet food which is also marketed as a dog food topper. Samples tested positive for H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) after a house cat in Washington County, Oregon, contracted the virus and died following consumption. Genetic testing confirmed a match between the virus in the pet food and the infected cat.

What to Do

  • Discard recalled products immediately.
  • Contact the place of purchase for a full refund.

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) reports no human cases of HPAI linked to this incident. While the risk to humans is low, OHA continues monitoring exposed individuals as part of a One Health approach with ODA.

Health and Safety Tips

  • Avoid raw or undercooked meat/dairy.
  • Keep pets and poultry away from wild birds.
  • Wash hands after handling raw animal products or sick/dead animals.
  • Report sick or dead birds to ODA at 503-986-4711.
